- Description
A ready to use sol-silicate interior paint with earth oxide colour pigments giving intense light fast colour shades. Suitable for use on previously painted and unpainted surfaces. Not suitable for wood, metal or plastic. Flat matte colour which is breathable with a high moisture vapour permeability. Acrylic and preservative free. Resistant to mould and mildew. Non flammable. Environmentally friendly. Cruelty free. natureplus certified.
Gris Mineral Paints are different from conventional paints. They contain potassium silicate and chemically bond to the underlying substrate rather than simply forming a film on the surface. They are water based, rather than solvent based, therefore odourless and safe to use.
- Coverage & VOC Content
Coverage 0.22L per m²
VOC content 0-1g/L
SD Value 0.01 - Preparation
Any loose, flaking and unstable material must be identified and then thoroughly removed using stiff brushes and broad bladed scrapers to get back to a sound edge. The edges should then be feathered in.
Ensure that any paint materials left remaining and the underlying substrate is sound and adhering well.
Gloss or shiny surfaces should be thoroughly flattened down using sand paper.
Newly rendered/repaired surfaces require a minimum period of 15 days to dry.
Newly lime rendered/repaired surfaces require a minimum of 28 days to dry.
- Repairs
Any cracks should be filled with a mineral based filler. Acrylic, silicone or polymer fillers are imcompatible with mineral paint.
We recommend Keim Dolomitspachtel available from keimpaintshop.co.uk
Dampen surfaces with a sponge or cloth using clean cold water. Apply Keim Dolomitspachtel by brush or trowel. Allow a minimum of 15 days to dry before sanding smooth and remove surface dust using a soft cloth.
Apply a single coat of Gris Mineral Paint with a roller, (brush for corners) or airless spray.
A minimum of 12 hrs must be observed before applying the final coat.
- Application
Materials must NOT be applied where ambient and surface temperatures below 5°C or in excess of 30°C. Containers should be stored in a cool, dry area protected from frost.
Surfaces must be clean and dry with below 18% moisture content.
Do not dilute the paint. A mist coat is not required.
Short/medium pile roller application is preferable with brush application for corners. Ensure rollers are clean and dry before use and evenly coated with paint during application. Airless spraying also suitable. If using airless spraying, contact us for details of the appropriate nozzle sizes and optimum mesh and filter types.
Always maintain a wet edge. Thoroughly work materials into the surface using an alternating M or W motion over the same section until completely filled in before moving onto the next section. Do NOT cut in.
Mineral paints are manufactured using natural components and as such can appear to dry out un-evenly, especially when using darker shades. Once fully dried, any unevenness will disappear. Do NOT over-roll or touch up the paint during the drying process as this may inadvertently create visual and textural discrepancies when dry.
Mineral paints will lighten as they dry with a corresponding increase in opacity. It is essential to wait a minimum of 12 hours after the first coat to ensure adhesion. Always apply two coats.
- Porosity & Absorbance
It is important to establish how porous the substrate is to ascertain whether priming maybe required to equalise absorbance. Tests can be done using clean cold water in a spray bottle. Long water runners indicate low absorbency, whereas short thick runners show high absorbency and would require priming. Use Keim Granital Dilution to prime bare surfaces 12 hours prior to painting. Highly absorbent surfaces can have an adverse effect on potassium silicate within the paint and can lead to chalkiness, uneven colour and reduced product performance.
- Adhesion on painted surfaces
To conduct an adhesion test on previously painted surfaces, cut small lines through the existing paint with a sharp blade. Press adhesive tape firmly across the cuts and then firmly pull off the tape. Paint which lifts from the surface is unsound and should be removed . Repeat at random in a number of areas to test the surface.
- Paint Disposal
Do not empty into drains. Unused paint may be left to dry to a solid form and disposed of in normal household waste. Mineral paint is biodegradable.
- Recycling
Our containers are made from 100% recycled plastic. Recycle in compliance with local regulations.
